DescriptionFirst illustrated edition in Spain of Poe's tales. Title with a selection of eleven stories by 'Edgardo Poe' included in the eminent collection 'Biblioteca Arte y Letras' edited with great luxury by Daniel Cortezo.
Fernando [Ferran] Xumetra Ragull designed thirty-eight vignettes and full-page illustrations, including an allegorical portrait of Poe.
Cover designed and engraved by Frances Jorba Curtils. Edges decorated in red and back cover with the publisher's emblem: a ship with the word 'Ars' on the sail surrounded by the legend 'Ad augusta per angusta' (Towards success through difficulties). One of the first books in Spain to use photomechanical systems for the reproduction of illustrations.
It includes Carlos Baudelaire's (Charles Baudelaire's) prologue 'Edgardo Poe. Su vida y sus obras'.
