DescriptionFirst illustrated edition of the poetic work of Edgar A. Poe in the United States (43 poems and the theoretical text "The Poetic Principle"). Reprint of the edition London: Sampson Low, 1858. It also contains a Preface and "Memoir of Edgar Allan Poe".
It includes a portrait of Poe and fifty-two woodengravings made by Frederick Richard Pickersgill, John Tenniel, Myles Birket Foster, Felix Octavius Carr Darley, Jasper Francis Cropsey, P. Duggan (possibly Peter Paul Duggan), Percival Skelton and Adolphus M. Madot, and engraved by J. Cooper, William James Linton, W. T. Green, E. Evans, Hammond, H. Harral, W. Thomas, Josiah Wood Whymper. In addition, it includes a series of ornamental headings, finials and initials by design of W. Harry Rogers.
Copy with handwritten dedication: "Miss Sarah P. Bean. With regards of the 1st Class. Mar. 23, 1860".
