DescriptionFragment from the literary magazineMusée des familles. Lectures du soir (vol. 31, April 1864) corresponding to the article "Études littéraires. Edgard Poe et ses oeuvres" (pp. 193-198, 203-208) by Jules Verne.
The original article included six illustrations, two designed by Frédéric Lix (“The Murders in the Rue Morgue” and “The Purloined Letter”) and four by Jean-Édouard Dargent, Yan' Dargent (“The Gold-Bug,” “The Unparalleled Adventure of One Hans Pfaall,” “A Descent into the Maelström,” and “The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym”). The engravers were Tropsch and Gérard.
In this case, the illustrations for “The Gold-Bug” and “The Unparalleled Adventure of One Hans Pfaall” are missing.
In the illustration to "The Murders in the Rue Morgue" Poe appears alongside one of his characters, Dupin.
